6 Unexpectedly Helpful Things You Can Do With Paper Bags

Brown paper bags can be used in different ways. Today we share some of all the ways you can use brown paper bags so you can see just how useful these bags can still be!

Here are 6 wonderful and useful things you can do with a classic brown paper bag.

1. Fruit Ripens Faster

You can store certain types of fruit in paper bags to make them ripen quickly! This goes for bananas, tomatoes, pears, peaches, avocados, etc. Just put the fruit inside, roll up the top of the bag, and let it sit on the counter for a day or two. Fruit releases ethylene gas over time, and the paper bag traps the gas inside, allowing it to ripen faster. (This doesn’t work in plastic bags, since plastic also absorbs moisture and causes the fruit to rot.)

2. Homemade popcorn

If you have a brown paper bag, you can make really delicious homemade popcorn in the microwave! Homemade popcorn is a great between-meal snack, and it’s even pretty healthy if you’re not crazy about butter.

3. Clean the windows

Rip open a paper bag, tie it up, and use it to clean windows! Many people swear by paper bags or newspaper to clean mirrors and windows because paper leaves a lint-free and streak-free shine!

4. Serve snacks

Use paper bags for treats at any party or get-together! They have a very rustic look as serving bowls and you won’t have to wash as many dishes after the party is over. Simply roll the top of the bag down or snip it off with scissors, pour in the treat of your choice, and serve!

5. Collection and recycling

I always hang on paper bags at the grocery store for my recycling. When the bag is full, I can take the entire bag to the recycling center without having to transfer it in or out of another container.

6. Arts & Crafts

Cut a few paper bags and use them for art projects like painting. Or, you can use them to protect your tabletop from messy projects like DIY projects, egg staining, or pumpkin carving.
